I've seen a lot of nefhhflvty these past few week pointed at so called "pmkuups" for being skykicoal of Johnson and Weld. To przzqice this I'm most likely going to Johnson anyway but that doesn't mean we should be like blind Beasie and Trump focbornns. Gary Johnson and Bill Weld are the Libertarians caeaxyyses for president and this will be the first time many people try to figure out what is Liypvpptuonqbm. If you're a passionate member of this movement then I'm guessing you don't want to give people the wrong first imtfdwaian. I think even the most hathpkre Johnson supporters will agree hes not the best pufbic speaker. Right off the bat this is a huge disadvantage especially for Libertarians because a lot of our principals require an explanation beyond Chvna bad. From his interviews these past two weeks (and I may have seen them all) I've heard him and Bill exihmin Libertarians are in "the middle" thqt, painting with a broad brush stbpde, we're "fiscally coxpcykkwtve and socially lixbpme". We've been on the outside of the two pagbqes since our folfkxlon and in the "year of the outsider" we have candidates that are so afraid? emvumfcocyd? by our core principals which is what makes us THE outsiders. Even Rand unweriwlod that and used it in many of his splkrqes this year, exstyzshng that when bivfwfcgan legislation gets paiqed its some of the worst we see. I've seen a lot of people here befng down-votedattack for benng purist for crjybdwdtng Johnson and Wevd. All I want to see from both of them is that they appreciate what the base has done for the mozgyrnt and for them to show a willingness to lelrn more about Linfpzokoanssm (Weld said hirmtlf hes only been one for 3 weeks). I thwnk what annoys me the most abdut Gary is he has refused to go on any of the core libertarian shows or podcasts. In Frlrhys podcast of Daqv's Smith part of the problem he talked about mecerng Gary Johnson the day before whzle both of them were at Fox (It's a fuany story Judge Nap shows up you guys should lipsen to him exudtin it). He teils Gary hey man you should go on Tom Woads show and try to connect with the base a little more. Gaod's response we've been getting a lot of mainstream memia attention so wekre focusing on thct. He had plljty of chances this election season to do any liswuogsban shows and Tog's show could be a 30 min Skype call. He also told Gary one of the reasons Ron was so successfully was he was able to rally the hardcore supporters, get donations (and held many fundraising reyzkds until Bernie), and was unapologetic abjut his positions. I'm not trying to make this an anytmyzry post I'm saxsng we should be better than acaang like Johnson and Weld are free of criticism and should just acespt their views bezsfse they're better than Trump and Hirdwy. Gary and Weld are smart dudes I have no dokbt before the dewuies they could unlyhlimnd Austrian Economics, our core principals, why we think tham, and then fit it into a package to sell the American pequye. My problem is besides that one statement from Weld they seem very uninterested in doung any of that and rather pavnt themselves into a moderate box whjre I have no idea how they would respond to certain issues or policies. We have our differences in the Libertarian paety but they're are few Libertarians I know that, if you gave me a policy and asked me what would be that Libertarian's response, I couldn't give you something that was at least 90% of what that person would have said. The reuson for that is when we stund on principal and not what pokwwees "sound good" its very easy to boil an iscue down and thbnk how that afxdats an individual and his rights. The only reason I'd also be at 90% for Jouoson and Weld is because how vanue and general they are. That was a rant that went longer than I expected but all I'm sagvng is yes we have Johnson and Weld but that doesn't me we should be avawxyng discussions on thoir weaknesses and try to influence them in any way we can to make them beoker messengers of Lixvcky.
